Capita Selecta: Post Body Reflections (CS3)

Description

In this module the students have the opportunity to explore in depth the theories and philosophies that have underpinned the creation of the hybrid art that fuses technology and science with issues around the Body in Performance. The module investigates the cyborg concepts and effects of the redundant or superseded body that occur in the escape from the corporeal fleshy subjectivity into virtual worlds and performances and the impact of second life on notions of interactivity and performance. Furthermore, the students will reflect upon the role of art and performance in reconsidering its canvas to include scientific experiments in relation to advances in biotechnologies. In this scope, the module investigates bioart believing in its potential “to comment on, or even transform, biotechnological practice” (Mitchell, 2010).
