Description
The module provides a rigorous and in depth contextual examination of the philosophical, psychoanalytical, sociological and other theoretical notions around the Body in Performance. It considers how artists or artistic movements of the late 20th and 21st century have creatively replied to the philosophical underpinnings of the concept of the Body and how they have critically developed, absorbed or established these theories in order to create work that can challenge embodiment and performativity of subjectivity. Students will be exposed to the work of artists such as La Ribot, Guillhermo Gomez Pena, Cindy Sherman, Jerome Bel, Xavier Le Roy, Marten Spangberg, Yoko Ono, Ana Mendietta, Guerilla Girls, Bruce Nauman, Tehching Hsieh, Vito Acconci, Paul McCarthy, Miguel Gutierrez a.o.
